Model Airport of the Day: The world’s largest model airport, Knuffingen Airport, is now on display in Germany. The 150 square-meter model, based on Hamburg Airport, cost nearly $5 million to build.
The mini-airport includes 40 planes and 90 total vehicles, all of which move around the airport, controlled by computer. The planes even fly via a system of wires. More mind-blowing numbers on the model: 40,000 lights, 15,000 figurines, 500 cars, 10,000 trees, 50 trains, 1000 wagons, 100 signals, 200 switches and 300 buildings.
The real Hamburg airport is 100 years old this year, and it’s approximately 40 times the size of the Knuffingen model.
Check out some photos of the model after the jump.
