Cell Phone Cancer Warning of the Day: The World Health Organization says that radiation from cell phones is a possible carcinogen. After considering peer-reviewed studies on the issue, the organization added cell phones to its “carcinogenic hazard” list, which includes lead, engine exhaust and chloroform.
The wireless industry organization CTIA responded that this “does not mean cell phones cause cancer” and pointed out that this isn’t a new study, merely a review of prior research.
It’s important to note that “possibly carcinogenic to humans” and “definitely causes cancer” are two different things, and current devices haven’t been around long enough to study the long-term effects of using them. Nonetheless, mobile device manufacturers including Apple and RIM already warn users to keep phones away from their bodies while in use.
