Civilian Jetpack Flight of the Day: Personal jetpacks just got one step closer with the successful test flight of a Martin Jetpack. The jetpack, carrying a human-sized dummy, ascended to 5000 ft and then tested an emergency landing using a commercially available ballistic parachute.
The climb took 6 minutes, and the whole thing was over in 10. Although the jetpack did take some damage on impact, its creators say it’s “likely” a pilot would have been able to walk away from the landing.
