Tau Day of the Day

Tau Day of the Day

Tau Day of the Day: The pi is a lie! It’s Tau Day, a day to celebrate the movement to replace pi with a new circle constant: 2π, represented by the Greek letter tau.

Why today? Well, 2π = about 6.28.

And why tau? Basically, because 2π is a full turn around a circle. For a more elaborate explanation, check out the Tau Manifesto, by physicist Michael Hartl.

Incidentally, this doesn’t mean you get to eat less pie. Celebrating Tau Day with two pies is considered entirely appropriate.

Below, check out musician John Blake’s “What Tau Sounds Like,” a variation on his popular “What Pi Sounds Like.”
