Google Acquisition Rumor of the Day: Google is reportedly in early talks to buy streaming video service Hulu. Hulu has also been meeting with Microsoft and Yahoo, according to the LA Times. All four companies declined comment for the story.
Any potential Hulu purchaser will still have to deal with the companies that license shows for the service. Disney, News Corp. and Comcast just renewed their agreements with Hulu, but new terms might be added that forces viewers who don’t have cable to wait longer than the standard one day for Hulu shows. Unfortunately for viewers (and for Google), a new Hulu owner would be stuck with those restrictions.
On the other hand, Google backing would have more weight to throw around in future licensing negotiations, so I, for one, welcome our new Goolu overlords.
