Game of Thrones News of the Day: Addressing a group of TV critics yesterday, HBO execs offered some comfort to Game of Thrones fans who fear the show might be cancelled before it catches up with George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels.
“We told [Martin] we’d go as long as he keeps writing,” said HBO co-president Richard Pierpier.
Programming President Michael Lombaro backed him up: “I hope it lasts for 20 years. I promise you we won’t stop it before it’s ready to stop … There’s a great relationship fans have with the show and we appreciate that. We’ve never seen people get so excited about casting.”
HBO said that they don’t know how many seasons the show will run, considering that some of Martin’s books won’t fit into a single season each. They also defended the show’s 10-episode seasons, saying that more episodes would require either a longer wait between seasons or a dip in quality.
