Wi-Fi Day of the Day: Today is Wi-Fi Day! No, it’s not the anniversary of the invention of wireless networking, it’s just 8/02/11, which looks a lot like 802.11, the current wireless standard.
The original IEEE 802.11 standard was released in 1997, specifying speeds of 1-2 megabits per second. We’ve come a long way since then: the current version, 802.11n, increased maximum raw data rates to between 54 Mbit/s and 600 Mbit/s.
Aww! 802.11′s all grown up! Time to celebrate by streaming some Netflix on a laptop in the front yard, just because we can.
