HP Kills WebOS of the Day: HP has officially put an end to its struggling webOS, bought from Palm last year.
The company’s press release said, “HP reported that it plans to announce that it will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones.”
The news comes after reports that Best Buy was stuck with 200,000 unsold HP Touchpads, even after a $100 price cut, and was demanding that HP take them back. Only 25,000 of the tablets were sold, and that’s reportedly a “charitable” estimate.
HP also announced it is “in discussions” about acquiring software maker Autonomy and spinning off its PC business.
