Turing Test Result of the Day

Turing Test Result of the Day

Turing Test Result of the Day: Famous chatbot Cleverbot may have passed the Turing test — a test of whether a machine can convince humans that it is human — at the Techniche festival in Guwahati, India.

An audience watched as thirty volunteers had typed conversations with mystery partners — either Cleverbot or a human — and then rated the “humanness” of the unknown chatters.

With 1,334 responses — the highest number ever for a Turing test — 59.3% thought Cleverbot was human. That’s just a little bit lower than the 63.3% the humans themselves scored. So, although Cleverbot scored better than 50%, which is generally considered a pass, it still proved distinguishable from humans.

The version of Cleverbot that took the test isn’t the same one you can chat with online. The web version does three searches of its conversation archives before responding, while the full version runs 42.
