Possible Robot Torchbearer of the Day: A 3-foot tall robot called the iCub has been nominated to participate in the Olympic Torch Relay for the 2012 London Games.
Dr. James Law, a computer scientist at Aberystwyth University, nominated the “child-like humanoid robot” to carry the torch as a way of honoring legendary computer scientist Alan Turing on the 100th anniversary of his birth.
“A robot torch-bearer would be a fitting tribute to Alan Turing, and an inspiration to future generations of scientists and engineers,” Law wrote.
Hey, if a robot can do an Ironman Triathlon, there’s no reason one can’t carry a torch.
