Stephen King Shining Sequel Announcement of the Day: It’s official: Stephen King is writing a sequel to The Shining. The author has announced the new project on his website, and he even read an excerpt from the new book — called Dr. Sleep — at George Mason University over the weekend.
According to a tentative description King gave back in 2009, Dr. Sleep takes place 40 years after The Shining, and stars a grown-up Danny Torrance, now working with end-of-life patients in a hospice facility. Danny uses his powers to help his patients pass on to the other side … and also to bet on horse races.
The excerpt King read at George Mason features a traveling group of vampires called The Tribe, who have the ability to suck energy from “special people” like Danny.
