Ada Lovelace Day of the Day

Ada Lovelace Day of the Day

Ada Lovelace Day of the Day: Today is Ada Lovelace Day, an international day of recognition for women in science, technology, engineering and math. The day’s namesake, Ada Lovelace, wrote the earliest programs for Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine in the 1840s, making her the first computer programmer.

The mission of Ada Day is to highlight the achievements of women in technical fields and provide role models for other women who want to pursue a career in those areas. There are events happening around the world, and you can also participate online by posting stories about women in tech.

Over at MetaFilter, they started things off with a fantastic video of computer programming pioneer (and Navy Rear Admiral) Grace Hopper on Letterman.

Tell us about your own female tech heroes in the comments.
