Faster-Than-Light Neutrino Update of the Day

Faster-Than-Light Neutrino Update of the Day

Faster-Than-Light Neutrino Update of the Day: The CERN experiment that recorded a faster-than-light neutrino last month may have been invalidated.

Scientists at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands have come up with a very Einsteinian explanation of what happened: the GPS satellites measuring the moving neutrinos were also moving, and the experiment didn’t correct for that relative motion.

If you assume those satellites are subject to Einstein’s theories, the scientists say, the potential error they introduce is 64 nanoseconds. That’s just a bit bigger than the margin of error reported in the CERN experiment. Conclusion? The neutrino was moving at or close to, but not exceeding, the speed of light.

Looks like you win again, Einstein.
