Samsung Galaxy Nexus Announcement of the Day: Google and Samsung have finally revealed the latest in Android handsets. Although rumors said it would be called Galaxy Prime, its official name is Galaxy Nexus. The new phone will run Android 4.0, nicknamed Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Galaxy Nexus includes a 1280×720 HD Super AMOLED display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, two cameras (5 megapixels in back, 1.3 in front) and 1080p video recording capability.
As for Ice Cream Sandwich, the new version of Android brings an entirely redesigned UI, better multitasking and notifications, and NFC (near-field communication) support.
You may already know NFC as the technology that powers Google Wallet payments, but Ice Cream Sandwich will also use it to “quickly share webpages, apps and YouTube videos by simply tapping two phones together.”
Other new features in Android 4.0 include folders, resizable widgets, tabs in the stock browser and “Face Unlock,” which allows you to unlock your Ice Cream Sandwich phone via facial recognition.
After the jump: the official Galaxy Nexus introduction video and some more pics of the phone.
