Gmail Interface Update of the Day: It looks like Google is getting ready to reveal a new, more polished interface for Gmail.
A video briefly posted on the company’s YouTube channel showed off the changes to the Gmail UI.
The overall look is pretty close to what you’ll find in Gmail’s currently-available Preview theme, with a handful of tweaks: the action bar now uses big icons instead of text labels, there’s a new interface for conversations, you can resize the chat sidebar, and the search box now includes advanced options.
In other big Google news, the company has dropped its policy of requiring users to go by their legal names on the Google+ social network.
After coming under fire from pro-privacy groups, Google finally gave in and announced it will add “other types of identity” that could include pseudonyms.
Digital rights advocates at the Electronic Frontier Foundation say they’re “cautiously optimistic that Google+ will do the right thing to ensure that all of its users feel free to express themselves on the site.”
After the jump: check out Google’s video about the new-look Gmail interface.
