WikiLeaks Publishing Suspension of the Day

WikiLeaks Publishing Suspension of the Day

WikiLeaks Publishing Suspension of the Day: WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says the organization has been forced to suspend all publishing operations due to a financial blockade that has “destroyed” 95% of WikiLeaks’ funding.

Visa, MasterCard, Bank of America and other financial institutions stopped servicing WikiLeaks donations last December, after WikiLeaks released a cache of U.S. Embassy cables.

Now Assange says WikiLeaks’ remaining resources will be used to fight the financial blockade by focusing on fundraising, and he warns that other journalistic enterprises could face the same fate as his organization.

“If publishing the truth about war is enough to warrant such action, all newspapers who have published WikiLeaks cables are on the verge of having their readers and advertiser payments blocked entirely,” Assange said.

Although WikiLeaks won’t be releasing documents for a while, there are plans to launch a “new-generation submission system” for new documents at the end of November.
