Google Street View Interiors of the Day: Google’s Street View, known for providing 360 views of city streets, has started taking photos inside businesses.
Google isn’t photographing interiors without permission, though. Instead, they’re billing the service as a marketing tool for businesses, and only adding stores whose owners fill out an application.
If there are customers in the store when Google arrives for a scheduled shoot, the Street View team will handle it the same way they do outdoors: by blurring faces. Google has handed the privacy issue off to business owners, saying it’s up to them to let customers know about the shoots.
Although Google isn’t shooting indoors without permission, some business owners worry that as more stores are added, the photos could be used to “case the place,” by checking for places without alarms.
