Converted Climate Change Skeptic of the Day: Well-known physicist and climate change skeptic Richard Muller says he now accepts that temperatures are rising.
After spending two years on a study partially funded by billionaire climate change deniers the Koch Bros., Muller found a 1.6 degree increase in temperature since 1950, which matches the results of studies by NOAA and NASA.
“The skeptics raised valid points and everybody should have been a skeptic two years ago,” Muller told the Associated Press, “And now we have confidence that the temperature rise that had previously been reported had been done without bias.”
Muller’s study didn’t examine the causes of global warming, and he hasn’t explicitly said that the temperature increase came from manmade sources. Still, he said it makes sense to lower carbon dioxide emissions, because “greenhouse gases could have a disastrous impact on the world.”
In a statement, the Koch Foundation pointed out that the study didn’t examine ocean temperatures, and said the foundation will continue to fund climate research.
