Anonymous vs. The Zeta Drug Cartel of the Day: Hacktivist group Anonymous has picked a fight with a Mexican drug cartel called the Zetas, after the cartel allegedly kidnapped an Anon who was passing out propaganda in Veracruz.
In a video posted on YouTube, Anonymous called for the release of their compatriot and claimed it could expose journalists, police officers and taxi drivers who work for the Zetas.
Security firm Stratfor says that if Anonymous does have that information, naming names would put people at risk, even if the accusations are false. Further, Anons outside of Mexico may be endangering their in-country counterparts by picking a fight with the cartel.
Some members of Anonymous are now trying to cancel “Operation Cartel” to avoid provoking the gang. However, prominent Anonymous member Sabu said on Twitter that OpCartel was “very much alive,” and that Anon’s “war on corruption” would continue.
