Follow Up of the Day: Although hacktivist group Anonymous reportedly cancelled #OpCartel, its plan to expose law enforcement officials and others who allegedly collaborate with Mexico’s Zeta drug cartel, the operation is now back on.
Barrett Brown, often quoted as a spokesman for Anonymous, released a video announcing that the core group of Anons behind #OpCartel put it to a vote and decided to continue as planned.
Brown says the alleged cartel collaborators whose information Anonymous plans to release are mostly Mexican. There is one American District Attorney on the list, but Brown is still investigating that person’s ties to the Zetas.
As for allegations that the people exposed are danger of being killed by the Zetas, Brown says they’re probably true. “The cartels will take these things into their own hands … and in some cases will probably kill the people,” he told The Atlantic Wire.
