NASA Russian Rocket Launch of the Day

NASA Russian Rocket Launch of the Day

NASA Russian Rocket Launch of the Day: Last night, NASA launched the first manned spaceflight since the end of the space shuttle program in July, sending astronaut Dan Burbank and two cosmonauts to the International Space Station aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket.

The Soyuz TMA-22 took off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, and is expected to dock with the ISS on Wednesday. Burbank and cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov and Anatoly Ivanishin will take over operations on the Space Station when the current crew returns to Earth aboard the Soyuz next week.

During their time on the ISS, Burbank and crew (who will be joined by three more crew members in December) are expected to receive the first-ever commercial space expeditions to the ISS, including a resupply from SpaceX’s Dragon capsule.
