
RIP: Anne McCaffrey, author of over 100 fantasy books, including the award-winning Dragonriders of Pern series, died at her home in Ireland on November 21st after suffering a stroke. She was 85.
McCaffrey was the first woman to win two of sci-fi’s most prestigious awards, the Hugo and the Nebula, and one of her Pern novels, The White Dragon, was the first hardcover sci-fi novel to make the New York Times bestseller list.
She has also won a Robert A. Heinlein award and has been inducted into the SF Hall of Fame.
McCaffrey, born in Cambridge, MA, and educated at Radcliffe College, published her first novel in 1967. In 1970, she moved to Ireland to open a stable and raise horses.
She is survived by her two sons and daughter.
