Spotify Features of the Day: Streaming music service Spotify held its first-ever US press event in New York today, and CEO Daniel Ek announced the company will allow developers to write HTML5-based add-ons that will bring new features to Spotify.
Spotify will provide a JavaScript API for devs, allowing them to access “all of Spotify’s features” and write apps that will be “seamlessly integrated” with the music service. The apps will be available in both the paid and ad-supported versions of Spotify.
Rolling Stone kicked off the new developer initiative with an add-on that lets users read music reviews from within the Spotify app. 30 apps will be available at launch, including offerings from Billboard and Last.fm.
