Entertainment Industry Pirates of the Day: Employees at major U.S. entertainment industry players like Sony Pictures, Fox and NBC Universal have been pirating music, movies, and TV shows at work, according to TorrentFreak.
Using a Russian site called YouHaveDownloaded, which was designed to show users of public torrent trackers how exposed their downloading habits are, TorrentFreak put in some entertainment industry IP addresses and turned up some interesting results: people who work for big Hollywood studios love downloading movies and TV shows just as much as anyone else.
In a similar investigation, a Dutch blog pointed out that someone at royalty collection agency Buma/Stemra — who you may remember from a recent extortion scandal — had downloaded an episode of Entourage and a copy of Battlefield 3.
Buma/Stemra responded by claiming its IP address had been spoofed. If that defense holds up, will the next private individual who gets sued by the RIAA or MPAA for illegal downloading be able to use it, too?
