Prometheus Trailer Preview of the Day: The first trailer for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is due out this Thursday, but the trailer for the trailer is out today. It doesn’t give much away, but it’s full of exciting bits and pieces to pore over in the three days until we get more footage.
At least it puts the first official photo from the movie in context, though: that mystery person in the spacesuit was being pulled backward. Toward what? We don’t know yet.
Ridley Scott has let a little more information slip about Prometheus, though. In an interview for Filmophilia, he says the film will explore the history of the Space Jockey — the giant alien pilot that the Nostromo crew encountered in Alien.
Scott:
I always thought it was amazing that no one ever asked who he was, and why was he there? What was all that about? I sat thinking about this for a while and thought, well, there’s a story! And the other four [films] missed it! So, here it is.
He also said that he always thought of the xenomorph — the alien from the first film — as a weapon, and Prometheus may answer the question of where the Space Jockey was taking it, and why.
Prometheus opens June 8, 2012.
