File-Sharing Religion of the Day

File-Sharing Religion of the Day

File-Sharing Religion of the Day: File-sharing has been recognized as an official religion in Sweden, TorrentFreak reports.

After several attempts, the Missionary Church of Kopimism — which recognizes copying and pasting as sacred acts — has finally been approved by the government. The final hoop the “Kopimists” had to jump through was explaining their system of prayer and meditation.

The church’s founder, a philosophy student named Isak Gerson, says, “There’s still a legal stigma around copying for many. A lot of people still worry about going to jail when copying and remixing. I hope in the name of Kopimi that this will change.”

By recognizing the church, the Swedish government hasn’t legalized copyright infringement, but it has given the religion’s 3000 members a platform to discuss their beliefs and attempt to shape future file sharing policy.

“To everyone with an internet connection: Keep copying. Maintain hardline Kopimi,” Gerson says.
