Words With Friends Leads to Marriage of the Day: Megan Lawless and Jasper Jasperse originally met as random opponents in Zynga’s Scrabble-like iPhone game, Words With Friends. Now, they’re married.
Their relationship began in 2009 over the in-game chat feature, and gradually made the jump to email and Skype. After a few months, they decided to meet, and the engagement followed shortly after that.
Words With Friends now has 14.9 million active users every month, so the chances of using the game to find your soulmate aren’t as great as they were when things worked out for Megan and Jasper.
“This is the first [marriage] we know of,” said Paul Bettner, general manager of the Zynga studio that makes Words With Friends, “I think that’s an awesome story.”
