Mars Rover App of the Day: A new iPhone and iPad app called Mars Images offers a quick way to view pics from NASA’s Opportunity Mars Rover.
The free app was created by Mark Powell of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and it lets you grab the latest images downlinked from Mars, view them in full-screen mode and send them to friends.
In the future, NASA will add an archive of images from Spirit, Opportunity’s twin, which was officially shut down back in May after nearly 7 years.
There will also be a similar app with images from the Mars Science Laboratory, once it lands and begins transmitting images in August.
