Tragic Loss of the Day: 16-year-old Pakistani computer whiz Arfa Karim passed away yesterday in a Lahore hospital, 26 days after suffering an epileptic attack and cardiac arrest.
A child prodigy, Karim became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional in the world at the age of 9. She also received a certificate to fly a plane when she was only 10.
Last week, Bill Gates offered to fully cover medical treatment for the teenage genius in the United States, but her condition made it impossible for Karim to be moved.
“We are grieving her loss but she was a strong child,” said Karim’s uncle, Ahsan Randhawa. ”She was God’s gift to us and now she has returned to Him.”
