Hollywood Threatens Obama Over SOPA Stance of the Day

Hollywood Threatens Obama Over SOPA Stance of the Day: MPAA CEO (and former Senator) Chris Dodd warned that Hollywood could pull financial support for President Obama’s reelection campaign because of the President’s stand against SOPA earlier this week.

“Candidly, those who count on quote ‘Hollywood’ for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who’s going to stand up for them when their job is at stake,” Dodd told Fox News. “Don’t ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don’t pay any attention to me when my job is at stake.”

Dodd says anti-piracy legislation will make or break Obama’s support from the entertainment industry, because it’s “the only issue that goes right to the heart of this industry.”

Hollywood has already given Obama more money this election cycle than it did during his first presidential campaign: $4.1 million for 2012 versus $3.7 million for 2008.

Obama could also make up for any lost Hollywood donations with the additional tech industry support his anti-SOPA stance has earned him. Fox News reports that “several tech company officials” attended an Obama fundraiser at the White House last week.
