Xbox 720 Rumors of the Day: Following hot on the heels of reports about the GPU Microsoft will use for its next-gen Xbox console, some more rumors about the Xbox 720′s capabilities are now circulating online.
First, the good news: Kotaku has heard from “games industry sources” that the new Xbox will ditch DVDs for Blu-ray discs, catching up to the Playstation 3. It will also reportedly come with the Kinect 2, which is rumored to be so accurate it can read players lips.
And the bad news: Microsoft may build in a system that keeps the Xbox 720 from playing used games. There’s no word on how the system would work, but it might involve either registration codes or linking each copy of a game to an Xbox Live account.
Following up on reports that the Xbox 720′s GPU could provide 6 times the performance of current-gen systems, Kotaku also says they’ve heard that multiplier could go as high as 8x.
That has Gizmag hoping that the new console will be able to run Epic’s Samaritan, a demo introduced at GDC 2011 to demonstrate the graphics Epic hopes new systems will be able to handle.
Check it out after the jump.
