Redbox and Verizon Streaming Movie Service of the Day: Verizon has announced it will team up with Coinstar-owned Redbox to offer a movie streaming and download service.
Their new Netflix competitor will launch during the second half of this year. Prices, subscription details and branding have yet to be announced, but Verizon will control 65% of the joint venture.
The two companies didn’t say whether they already have content deals in place with Hollywood studios, but Redbox recently put its foot down in negotiations with Warner Bros., rejecting WB’s demands for a 56-day rental delay on new releases.
