Back to the Future Hoverboard IRL of the Day: If you’ve been waiting since the ’80s to get your hands on the hoverboard from Back to the Future 2, Mattel has some good news and some bad news for you.
Good news: The toy company is about to start taking pre-orders for a 1:1 scale replica of the board, which plays “multiple whooshing sounds” and glides over most surfaces (but not water).
Bad news: the hoverboard does not actually hover. Mattel says “check back in 2015 for that technology.”
Very funny. Now, stop kidding around and give us a hoverboard we can ride!
The replica board goes up for pre-order on March 1st, and will ship in November or December if there’s enough demand. No price has been announced yet, but the board is described as “a high-cost item.”
