Pokémon For iPhone Scam of the Day: A supposed iOS port of Pokémon Yellow has shot up to number 3 on the iTunes App Store charts, but the game is both unofficial and completely broken.
Many one-star reviews report that the 99-cent app crashes after the first screen, and several wondered how the fake game made it through Apple’s review process in the first place. Nintendo hasn’t announced an iPhone port of Pokémon, and hasn’t licensed the property to an iPhone developer.
Even the screenshots are from the wrong version of the game, Pokémon Fire Red/Leaf Green.
It’s just a matter of time before the fake app is removed. Apple hasn’t yet commented on the situation, and may be waiting for a copyright notice from Nintendo before taking action.
