Bleach Live-Action Movie News of the Day: Warner Bros. is moving forward with a live-action adaptation of Tite Kubo’s popular manga and anime series, Bleach, bringing on Wrath of the Titans writer Dan Mazeau to write the screenplay.
Peter Segal (50 First Dates, Get Smart) will produce the movie, and may also direct. Other producers include Heroes star Masi Oka and VIZ Media, the English-language publisher of Bleach.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of ‘Bleach’ and have great respect for its creator Kubo Sensei and the truly original and amazing world he has created in this manga,” Segal told Variety.
The manga, about a newly-appointed “Soul Reaper” tasked with fighting evil spirits and guiding souls to the afterlife, has sold 72 million copies in Japan.
The anime adaptation was also one of the most popular series in Japan when it was released in 2006, and was one of the top ten anime series in the U.S. between 2006 and 2008.
