MIT grad student Charles Guan has converted the go-kart designs from Mario Kart into a real-life mini-vehicle that can hit 26 MPH.
The “Chibikart” has a 30-inch-long frame, making even an average person look like Donkey Kong while driving it around. It’s a pretty efficient little cruiser, though, running on electric motors and an e-bike controller.
Oh, and it has four-wheel drive. That probably comes in handy when you’re driving over banana peels.

Mario Kart IRL of the Day: Nintendo has joined forces with West Coast Customs in order to create two life-sized Mario Karts for the LA Auto Show.
They built Mario’s standard ride and Luigi’s bee-themed cart, and the construction of the two will be featured on an episode of Street Customs.
They both look amazing, but I hope they didn’t make them functional, because if they did, anybody with any sense of what’s awesome will be tempted to try to drive them away.

RC Koopa Shells of the Day: 3D-printing enthusiast Michael “Skimbal” Curry was an unemployed architect until he created some working Koopa Shell RC cars and started racing them around Kansas City’s hackerspace, the Cowtown Computer Congress.
His shells helped him cruise into a new position with 3D printer company MakerBot Industries. His 3D-printed model of MakerBot founder Bre Pettis probably didn’t hurt, either.

Mario Kart IRL Of The Day: Satoshi Imanaka, who moonlights as Mario, is actually the 57-year-old head of S.C.A.T Japan, which luckily doesn’t mean what you think it does—his company does emergency preparedness consulting work. Anyway, he and his charitable friends like to zoom through town in go-karts handing out candy, toys, and school supplies to children. It puts the “aw” in awesome! Don’t get any ideas Pedobear.
