Neil Gaiman Adaptation of the Day

Apr. 29, 2012

geek news - Neil Gaiman Adaptation of the Day

Disney purchased the rights to Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book, with plans to have Henry Selick, who helmed Coraline, direct the film. That said, this should be a pretty cool send up of Graveyard and since it’s Disney, it would be fit for a marathon alongside the animated and live action versions of The Jungle Book.

Doctor Who Movie News of the Day

Nov. 14, 2011

Doctor Who Movie News of the Day

Doctor Who Movie News of the Day: Harry Potter director David Yates told Variety he’s been signed by the BBC to direct a big-screen adaptation of Doctor Who.

Yates, who directed the final four Potter flicks, said his Doctor Who movie won’t be a continuation of the current TV show.

“We’re looking at writers now. We’re going to spend two to three years to get it right. It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena,” he said.

That time frame might put the movie on track for Doctor Who‘s 50th anniversary in 2013, but it’s not yet clear which Doctor we’ll get on the big screen.

Current timelord Matt Smith likely won’t get the job, considering that Yates wants to “put aside” the Russell T. Davies and Steven Moffat versions of Doctor Who and “start from scratch.”

Phoenix Wright Movie Clip of the Day

Oct. 28, 2011

Phoenix Wright Movie Clip of the Day: Courtesy of a Japanese talk show, we’ve got the first footage of Takashi Miike’s adaptation of the Phoenix Wright courtroom battle games, and it looks true to Phoenix as we know him on the DS.

It looks like “Take that!” and “Objection!” are alive and well, as is the practice of literally throwing evidence at the opposing counsel.

Also, just one day after our first look at Hiroki Narimiya as Phoenix, this video gives a first glimpse of the movie version of Phoenix’s friend/rival Miles Edgeworth.

The movie’s official title is Gyakuten Saiban (Turnabout Trial), and it’s due out in Japan on February 11, 2012.

Ender’s Game Movie News of the Day

Sep. 29, 2011

Ender's Game Movie News of the Day

Ender’s Game Movie News of the Day: Casting calls have gone out for the big screen adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s sci-fi masterpiece Ender’s Game, directed by Wolverine‘s Gavin Hood.

The casting calls mention all the book’s major characters, including Ender Wiggin, and they appear to be based on a draft script by the Star Trek team of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

io9 has posted character descriptions that give a good idea of how closely the draft script sticks to the book (very) and the parts where it deviates a little (not many).

Needless to say, the descriptions are pretty spoilerific — if you haven’t read the book yet, check them out at your own risk.
