Doctor Who Movie News of the Day: Harry Potter director David Yates told Variety he’s been signed by the BBC to direct a big-screen adaptation of Doctor Who.
Yates, who directed the final four Potter flicks, said his Doctor Who movie won’t be a continuation of the current TV show.
“We’re looking at writers now. We’re going to spend two to three years to get it right. It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena,” he said.
That time frame might put the movie on track for Doctor Who‘s 50th anniversary in 2013, but it’s not yet clear which Doctor we’ll get on the big screen.
Current timelord Matt Smith likely won’t get the job, considering that Yates wants to “put aside” the Russell T. Davies and Steven Moffat versions of Doctor Who and “start from scratch.”
